COMMENTS These 10 bright and lively aquamarines are delicate sky blue in colour. They range from eye clean to slightly included in clarity. Most aquamarine is heat treated to remove secondary colours, however these gems have not been treated in any way. Today, the world’s major sources of aquamarine are Brazil, Africa and the US. Australia (NSW, NT and WA) is a minor source which makes crystals fossicked and mined here quite special.
DURABILITY Aquamarine is a type of Beryl that is coloured by iron. It’s hardness is 7.5 to 8 on Mohs scale. However, it is slightly brittle and is sensitive to heat and pressure. For these reasons it is suitable for occasional wear rings, or daily wear rings with protective settings.
